A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ALICE LAWRENCE

I moved to Rossmoor from Oakland in June 2024 and within a week I was recruited by my neighbor to become a weekly volunteer in the Computer Center. I loved it! What a great way to meet people and give back to the community. A couple of months later, I began participating in the House Call program as a Mac specialist. In May 2025, the Club President Rhona Lishinsky asked me to become the House Call team leader, a Board position. I was honored by her confidence in me and agreed to do so. When Rhona had to step down as President in January 2026 because of health issues, she asked me to consider taking on that role. It seemed a daunting prospect, as Rhona had been an exemplary leader for nine years. After some persuasion, I agreed to do the best I can to support the critical role of the Computer Club as a reliable and valued technology resource for all Rossmoorians.

Most of my working career was in magazine and book publishing, where my colleagues and I were early adopters of computers (I think I started with an Apple IIc). Both then and now I enjoy trying to solve problems and help others feel more comfortable with our ever-changing and now ubiquitous technology. In addition to my involvement with the Computer Club, I'm on the board of my Mutual, active in the Democrats of Rossmoor, a Scrabble Club devotee, a proud member of the activist group Good Trouble, and the captain of a Boomer Trivia team. I love living in Rossmoor and feel fortunate to have landed in this amazing community.

From its very beginning the Computer Club was composed of very dedicated individuals who were motivated to help people learn about this marvelous new tool which was just beginning to gather wide-spread interest and becoming more user friendly.

The fourty-four people who gathered at the first organizational meeting of the Club on March 17, 1993, at the Las Trampas Room, at Hillside Clubhouse in Rossmoor, had no idea that in a few short years the Club would have almost three thousand names on its mailing list and would become a vital part of the everyday life of Rossmoor.
